About WattWise

WattWise is an independent, advertising-supported website. We publish transparent home-energy arithmetic and practical explainers so readers can examine assumptions using their own bills and equipment details.

What we publish

Four calculators cover appliance consumption, rooftop solar payback, heat-pump versus existing-heat costs, and EV versus gasoline cost per mile. Reference pages explain units and common energy terms.

How we research

We rely on the official EIA, IRS, DOE, NREL, DSIRE, AFDC, FuelEconomy.gov and ENERGY STAR pages listed on each relevant page. We state dates and assumptions where they affect an estimate; an agency source remains authoritative if its guidance changes. Every figure that comes from a third party is linked at the bottom of the page where it is used, and every page shows when it was last reviewed. If a carrier, retailer or organisation changes its published information, the official source wins over anything on this site.

How the tools work

Calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not sent to our servers or saved by WattWise. We do not inspect a home, utility tariff or vehicle.

How we make money

WattWise shows advertising (Google AdSense) and does not accept payment from insurers, brokers, banks or any company in exchange for coverage in our guides. We do not sell leads, and we do not sell or recommend any specific insurance policy or financial product.

Corrections

If you spot an error, tell us through the contact page. We correct factual mistakes quickly and update the “last updated” date when we do.
